Job Description Summary: 

The 1099/Contract Investigator will conduct various elements of the Federal Background investigation process to gather information used in the determination of an individual’s suitability for Government employment; logical and physical access to Federally controlled facilities and information systems; to hold sensitive positions; to perform work for, or on behalf of, the Government as a Contractor employee; for Government service; to perform 

contractual services for the Government; and loyal to the United States. 



Perform subject and source interviews using tact and professionalism while following Federal background investigation standards 
Perform record searches 
Obtain records from various sources to include, but not limited to employers/former employers, courts, law enforcement agencies, schools and medical providers 
Write thorough reports of investigation based on documentation/information gathered during the course of the investigation while remaining biased and stating only the facts 
Adhere to timeliness and quality requirements for completing work 
Perform work within geographically assigned area 
Flexibility to perform responsibilities outside of normal business hours, (i.e., evenings, weekends) as needed 
Adhere to security policies and requirements regarding safeguarding of information, retention and submittal of case related information and training 

Required qualifications/skills:  

Candidates without all the required qualifications will not be considered. 

Successful completion of a Background Investigator National Training Standards (NTS) compliant investigator training course AND one of the following: 
Four (4) years of General Experience (problem solve/analyze problems, gather pertinent call) or bachelor’s degree 
Two (2) years of Specialized Experience (general background investigations as a local, state, military, or Federal law enforcement officer or background investigations for a Federal agency) within the last 5 years 
One (1) year Specialized Experience in Federal Background Investigations within the last 5 years. 
U.S. Citizenship 
Current SSBI or active security clearance based on an SSBI  
A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required 
Current auto insurance (Investigator will use POV to conduct assignments) 


Preferred qualifications/skills: 

DCSA credentials  
Experience conducting Federal Background investigations for DCSA (previously NBIB, OPM)

Physical Requirements: 

May require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
